ICA central warehouse

The Swedish ICA supermarket chain commissioned a major extension to their central warehouse in Helsingborg in 2014. CSK was involved all the way, from planning, design and production to installation on the construction site.

The existing central warehouse had room for 600 employees. By adding new loading and unloading areas and high bays, this capacity was increased by a further 400 employees. The project was thus of considerable size.

CSK also supplied a total of 1,487 tonnes of steel to the project, in the form of steel columns for the high-bay roof structure, structural steel for the roof in the unloading area, beams for the deck and trusses for the roof in the loading area, and steel for various interior walls.

Installation at a height of 30 metres
In connection with the construction of the high-bay area, CSK’s experienced installers had to work at a height of 30 metres, which presents certain challenges. One is having to raise and lower elements weighing up to 10 tonnes. Another is the wind that you always experience at that kind of height.

Both demand great care and complete control of the reinforcing. The strong wind also subjects the high steel structure to a lot of energy, and this must be taken carefully into account when each component is designed.
